Another year passed by...

Somebody told me the other week that the voting has started again for the DJ Magazine top 100, and I thought,no way, is that a year ago already? Yes, it's already a year ago and I think back of all the great moments of the past year; playing in Hong Hong after Christmas, New Year's Eve at Times Square in New York, South Africa in January/February, then of course my concert on the 10th of May in Arnhem, Holland which  is still the greatest night of my life. After that my six weeks of touring through -North America, which felt as one long holiday with great performances everywhere. Then the summer festivals like Dancevalley and Creamfields, both amazing, and of course last but not least my summer residency in Ibiza at Club Amnesia.

Some people say Ibiza has lost it's glamour and it's not the same anymore. I don't believe that, because I felt that this year was great, and when I talked to other dj's they said the same thing. This year, the atmosphere on the island has been amazing. I can't believe it's already finished this coming Thursday. I have played every week with lots of joy and with an epic crowd! If I think back of all these great memories I do believe another year passed by and a lot has happened.

Because of all the moments I mentioned above, I believe this has been my best year as a dj so far, and I consider myself very lucky to be in this position. The next couple of months I will be working in the studio to make a lot of new music for my DJ-sets. I already finished some tracks and I find it amazing how people react on my music.

For example 'Traffic'. I just made that track for fun to use when I was playing live gigs, not to give it  a serious release. But because of the great reaction of the people (they go wild when I play it!), the record company and I decided to release it on 12'' and cd-m/cd-s. The track doesn't represent a new musical direction I am taking, but it's something different. The way I look at the productions I make are like paintings, not something that has to be in a similar style all the time. That's what I like to achieve when I make music, to entertain and surprise people, so that they wonder; did Tiësto make this track as well?

Also the reaction on my version of Adagio For Strings has been amazing. I made this just for the grand opening for Tiësto In Concert but people ask me to play it wherever I go. This past weekend I played it in Athens as one of my last tracks. It was near the waterfront in a venue with around 4000 people. It was 7 in the morning and the sunrise was on its way. An incredible moment I will not forget, 4000 screaming Greeks with hands in the air, sunrise and Adagio playing. I had goosebumps all over!. Moments like that remind me of the reason why I want to be a deejay...

Cheers,
Tiësto

After Tiesto in Concert

At this moment I am on tour in North America. My mind often drifts back to 'Tiësto in Concert' on May 10 last.

Only now I start to realize the full experience of it.  On the day itself I was busy with arranging so many things, that a lot of stuff passes by and goes so fast that you are not able to enjoy it.

I always dreamt  about doing a big performance for a great audience who came only for me. This dream has come true now, although it's still hard to believe it all really happened. Believe me when I say that it had a great impact on me, it's like one big thrill.-

I started spinning at eleven in the evening, building up the music in my own way. I was playing on a separate booth on the stairs of the stadium behind a big screen. Behind me was a big lamp which lit me once in a while so the people could see only my shadow on the white screen. I love doing my own warm-up and besides that it broke the ice a little both for myself as for the audience, it's also kind of funny doing the opening act of your own show. It was like the crowd felt my nerves, there was a huge tension in the stadium.

Then at midnight the real show started, I came out on the big DJ booth on stage, fireworks were all around me together with lights and lasers, the crowd went wild. Standing there at that moment in that atmosphere, seeing all these people made me have goose bumps all over my body. It was my dream come true....

Especially in the beginning I had to get used to all kind of show elements of the concert. For me it was something completely new to have all kinds of interruptions for these elements and guest-appearances. For the crowd this was the same thing, they had to get used to this to. But when the singer Dinand from the Dutch rock group Kane came to perform my remix of their track 'Rain down on me' the crowd really went crazy. I stood there next to him in front of the DJ booth and felt that this night was going to be the best ever. From that moment on I felt nothing could go wrong anymore and I lost all my nerves. I was right then......this became my best performance ever

It is hard to create a good atmosphere in a big soccer stadium with 25,000 people, but we all did it: the atmosphere was the best ever. I could see the people dancing all over the place, in front of the DJ booth but also all the way back on the rings of the stadium. I was not in direct contact with the people but I could see that everyone was having a great time. This gave me an amazing feeling, to have gathered so many people who are all enjoying it so much.

I received many reactions from all over the world, and they were all fantastic.

I want to thank everyone involved in making this the most beautiful experience of my life, especially everyone from ID&T, Black Hole Recordings, Prime Time Management, Full Management Support, Magik Muzik and of course the terrific crowd!

Love Tiësto
