The first two weeks of August were very intense for me. Playing almost every night in a different city/country with two or more flights a day is pretty hardcore. It's living to the max though because two weeks as that feel as being on the road for two months! The country that impressed me the most on this tour was Spain actually. I've played Ibiza for years now and also this year is again amazing, but places like Marbella, Grand Canaria and Barcelona were very very special as well! The Spanish people in general are very friendly and cooperative. Normally in Spain the crowd mainly are tourists from all over the world, but I noticed this time around it was mainly a Spanish crowd. I loved all the gigs I did so far so I will definitely go back for more soon! In between I did other places as well. I hit Porto in Portugal, where I played at Pacha which is in my opinion the most beautiful Pacha in the world. People go out crazy late, the club starts to fill at 3.30 AM, and so I went on at 4.00 AM in the morning. Great night! Another place where I would never guess I would be is Venice, Italy. I didn't even know they had a scene over there but I was pleasantly surprised to play in a nice club called Il Murretto for 3.000 people on a regular tuesday! After that I went back to Ibiza for Cream's 10th anniversary. I played the last track of my set and the whole club, and I mean everybody! in the club screamed! I never heard this before, normally everybody on the dancefloor screames but this time everybody from VIP to dancefloor to the people behind the bars made noise. Every week has been very good for me this year in amnesia, I had great reactions on my essential mix of August 4th as well. I also played in Zurich, Switzerland at the loveparade which was interesting. I arrived at the venue and there were no people inside yet. Due to security problems they couldn't get the people inside the room on time. It's been a long time since I played in an empty hall but luckily for me the room was packed half an hour before the end of my set and the people who were in there had a great time. The name of the airport in Zurich is very funny for Dutch people by the way. It's called 'Kloten', which is slang for 'balls' in Holland, and when you feel bad Dutch people say: 'I feel klote!' Then I went in my private yet (how posh is that huh?) to Germany the same night to play on the Sonne, Mond und Sterne festival. It was a very interesting festival for me because I hardly knew anyone of the line-up. And to be honest, I was a sort of outsider on this festival because all the other bands/dj's played very minimal and deep styles of techno and house music. I loved it to walk around the festival grounds and visit the different tents though. I heard different sounds I never heard before. I played at 4.30 in the morning because everything got delayed (as always on festivals I guess), so I was pretty tired but I managed to play a nice alternative set. Next day to Belgium, for an epic night in the center of a city called Leuven. I had to go on after the Freestylers and again everything got delayed so I only could play for one hour instead of two. It was a short session but one with so much energy! The crowd went off for one hour straight and so did I! Last gig of this tour was Malta. Over 4.500 people showed up, which is if you think about it almost the whole island! I mean from everybody in the age of 20 to 40 :-). The promoter Geraldhino told me he never saw the Maltesers go mental like that ever on a party before. Now, that's what I like! Xxx, PS. Take a look at my image gallery too, I took some pictures during my travels around europe. |
